Puma II Chicory
It has a life of 3 – 4 years and can be sown in a mixture (recommended) or as a pure stand and has produced outstanding animal performance figures. This relatively new variety, PuNA II, has been developed in New Zealand for it’s amazing ability to finish lambs. It has a deep tap root which helps the plant with the uptake of minerals - zinc, copper and potassium and gives drought tolerance. Spring sowings are recommended, however early autumn sowing is possible as long as the plant is established before going dormant in winter. A seed rate of 0.75 kg / acre is advised and the seed can be drilled, broadcast or slot seeded. Conventional seedbed fertiliser is required and Puna II responds well to nitrogen. Puna II should be rotationally grazed for best performance and persistence. Care should be taken to graze hard in the spring to prevent the plant from seeding. hard grazing after flowering or damage to the crown in wet conditions will affect the production and persistence of Puna II. Puna II has only recently been introduced into the uk and we are still devloping it in other forms of agriculture. It does not give cattle bloat but some milk taint has been recorded in New Zealand. For more information on Puna II chicory contact your local Wynnstay representative or talk to Ben Wixey at the seed office.
